Digital Photography
I began doing digital photography to avoid the cost of stock images. Somehow this led to a gig as photographer for
the local Humane Society.
Please support your local Humane Society or SPCA. The cats in these pictures were strays, abandonments, surrenders, confiscations, often sick or injured, sometimes abused. The staff and volunteers work hard to see that every animal gets a second chance at a rewarding life. No animal is euthanised until there is no other option. Your support can be the difference between life and death. Support can be more than a few bucks in a tin. Many companies hold events, with the proceeds going to the local shelter. If you have more time than money, you can volunteer. There are envelops to stuff, cages to clean, dogs to walk, and cats to foster. Far more rewarding to me than the photography is fostering sick and injured cats: there is incredible fulfillment in seeing a sick cat grow sleek and confident, and real happiness in knowing that s/he was adopted by someone who really wanted that cat. The aim of these photographs is to make the subjects look as adoptable as possible. They succeed best when they conform to certain expected stereotypes. There are five galleries: Excruciatingly Cute Kittens 1, 2 and 3, and Breathtakingly Beautiful Cats 1, and 2. Enjoy. And, remember, support.
