Regarding auspices and divination, to the Romans, lucky, favorable, auspicious (because the Romans on these occasions faced towards the south, and so had the eastern or fortunate side on the left; the Greeks, facing north, had it on their right; cf. dexter.

Which goes to show that the Greeks were not always right -- and rarely, it would seem, left. Unfortunate for them, since neurological research has since shown that left-handedness indicates right-brain dominance, which in turn fosters artistic creativity. Guess that's why Leonardo was Italian....
