This is a traditional series of kabuki prints, one of the most popular of ukiyo-é genres. The actor is Bando
Hikasaburo, in the role of Hideyoshi. Yoshitoshi did other prints of Bando, as well a several of Ichikawa Danjuro
IX, clearly two of his favourite actors. Aside from the exquisite colour, it is worth noting, on this and other prints,
the fine woodgrain visible in the background.
