Like most traditional Mediterranean-Adriatic societies, Serbia places a high value on machismo. Although it is generally overlooked among North Americans as an influence in the past and future of Serbia, one can easily understand Milosevic, Karadic and company in the context of machismo, and the collapse of Serb culture and civil society since the bombing has a lot to do with the inability of men in a macho society to provide for the basic needs of their families.
